England Defeats India by 26 Runs in Second T20I

Bristol: India faced a 26-run defeat against England in the second T20I of the three-match series, leaving the series tied at 1-1. As the T20 World Cup 2026 approaches, this match was crucial for India, especially with captain Harmanpreet Kaur returning to the playing XI.

England batted first but struggled initially to score runs. The batting unit, particularly the middle order comprising Amy Jones, Alice Capsey, and Heather Knight, managed to maintain time at the crease but recorded a concerning strike rate of less than 130. Ultimately, Freya Kemp provided a swift finish to the innings, scoring an explosive 39 not out off just 13 balls, helping England reach a total of 168 runs.

On the bowling front, Indian spinner Sree Charani excelled, collecting three wickets for 25 runs in her four overs. Deepti Sharma, also a spinner, conceded 39 runs in her four overs, showcasing the challenges faced by India’s bowling attack.

Milestones for Harmanpreet Amidst Loss

In pursuit of 169 runs, India’s innings began with promising partnerships between Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma. Shafali was aggressive early on, scoring 22 runs before being dismissed. The pressure intensified on Mandhana and Yastika Bhatia, with Bhatia managing 33 runs off 36 balls before her dismissal.

Harmanpreet Kaur played a significant role in the innings, reaching 4,000 T20I runs and becoming only the third woman, following Suzie Bates and Mandhana, to achieve this milestone. She contributed 28 runs off 22 balls, but her dismissal marked the beginning of a dramatic collapse in the Indian batting lineup.

Lauren Bell, Charlie Dean, and Freya Kemp each took two wickets, as the Indian batting order struggled significantly; outside of the top four, none of the players managed to score in double digits, underscoring the difficulties faced by the side in this match.
