Dispute Between Pooja Entertainment and Tips Industries Reaches Court
New Delhi: Bollywood is currently embroiled in several controversies, including a significant legal dispute between Pooja Entertainment (India) Ltd and Tips Industries Ltd. The matter has escalated to the courts, with Vashu Bhagnani, the producer of Pooja Entertainment, initiating legal proceedings against Tips Music Chairman Ramesh Taurani, Kumar S. Taurani, and filmmaker David Dhawan.
According to ANI, Bhagnani has filed a lawsuit worth Rs 400 crore in the Bombay High Court. This case pertains to a specific song from Varun Dhawan’s recently released film, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai.
Central Demands of the Lawsuit
The lawsuit primarily revolves around the unauthorized use of well-known tracks from Bhagnani’s film Biwi No. 1, which feature in Dhawan’s latest project. The songs cited include “Chunari Chunari” and “Ishq Sona Hai.” Bhagnani seeks a revocation of audio rights and has requested an immediate injunction regarding the matter.
Legal Representation Comments
Speaking to ANI, Bhagnani’s lawyer explained, “We have filed a lawsuit worth Rs 400 crore against Tips Music Company. This legal conflict has persisted for some time without any resolution regarding the rights of the songs. Historically, film rights were delineated by specific agreements. Presently, music companies purchase songs directly from major producers or lyricists. In 2018, Tips requested permission for the visual rights.”
Despite Bhagnani’s attempts to negotiate, discussions did not culminate in a resolution. His lawyer reiterated, “If they claim to be the legitimate owners of the music rights, they should present their documentation. This is precisely why we have filed the lawsuit against Tips. We believe justice will prevail, and the truth will be revealed.”
Additional Compensation and Demands
Pooja Entertainment has also issued a statement seeking the removal of the songs “Chunari Chunari” and “Ishq Sona Hai” from Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai and its promotional materials. Furthermore, they are demanding a renaming of the film itself.
In addition to the initial claim, Bhagnani’s production house is pursuing further damages of Rs 100 crore, asserting that Tips and David Dhawan have improperly utilized intellectual property rights.
