Netanyahu Praises India’s Support Amid Global Criticism of Israel’s Legitimacy

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized the strong ties between Israel and India during an event early Friday, stating that Israel experiences “crazy love” from India amidst global challenges to its legitimacy. “We have a unique relationship with a huge power called India. In India, there’s support for Israel,” Netanyahu remarked. He added, “We face delegitimisation in much of the world — but not in India,” highlighting the robust support Israel receives.

Netanyahu expressed his belief that he has a substantial following from India, claiming, “I think I have more followers from India than from anywhere else.” This comment aligns with sentiments expressed earlier during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Israel in February, where Netanyahu recounted a personal experience involving his wife, Sara, at an Indian restaurant in Tel Aviv.

During a joint press conference with PM Modi, Netanyahu noted, “I owe India — I don’t know if I told you this, Narendra — but I owe India a great personal debt. You see, when I met Sara for the first time, I think our first or second date was in an Indian restaurant in Tel Aviv.” His recent comments reflect the continuing warmth and camaraderie that both leaders have cultivated in their diplomatic relations.
