Bangladesh Secures 2-0 Series Victory Over Pakistan in Sylhet

New Delhi: Bangladesh achieved a 2-0 series sweep against Pakistan, winning the second and final Test at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, May 20. Taijul Islam led the way for the hosts with a remarkable six-wicket haul in the second innings, helping dismiss Pakistan for 358 and securing victory by 78 runs.

On the final day, Bangladesh required just three wickets to wrap up the match, with Pakistan needing 121 runs to win, relying heavily on Mohammad Rizwan. The visiting side resumed play with a score of 316/7. Rizwan and Sajid Khan started strong, but the situation shifted dramatically when Sajid was caught at slips off Taijul’s bowling. Pakistan faltered afterwards as Rizwan, after a commendable innings of 94, nicked a delivery to gully, followed by Taijul removing Khurram Shahzad to clinch the win.

This victory allowed Bangladesh to ascend to the fifth position in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table, overtaking India, which has now dropped to sixth. Bangladesh’s current points total stands at 28 with a percentage of 58.33%, having won two matches, lost one, and drawn another. In contrast, India has a percentage of 48.15%, with four wins, four losses, and one draw, while Pakistan remains in eighth place with only one win from four matches.
