New Delhi: The Indian men’s cricket team has retained its position at the top of the ICC ODI rankings following the annual update released on Monday, May 11. As the winners of the Champions Trophy, India leads the ODI standings with 118 rating points, five points ahead of second-placed New Zealand, while Australia is ranked third with 109 points. Despite this, India saw a slight decrease in points, dropping from 119 to 118 in the latest ODI rankings. New Zealand, runners-up in the 2025 Champions Trophy, retains a close second with 113 points. The ICC rankings apply a full 100% weightage to matches played since May 2025, while results from the preceding two years account for 50% of the total weightage.
Pakistan Falls Behind South Africa
In this year’s update, South Africa have surpassed Pakistan to claim the fourth position, now holding a rating of 102 points. Pakistan follows closely with 98 points. The top ten teams remain unchanged otherwise, with Sri Lanka at 96 points, Afghanistan at 93, England at 89, Bangladesh at 84, and the West Indies at 74.
Intense Competition for Ninth Place
Currently, Bangladesh occupies the ninth spot, a crucial position as the World Cup co-hosted by South Africa and Zimbabwe approaches in 2027. If both hosts remain in the top eight, the ninth- and tenth-placed teams will gain direct entry to the tournament. With South Africa in fourth place, the competition for the ninth position intensifies, particularly between Bangladesh and the West Indies.
India Ascends to Third in Test Rankings
In the Test format, India has moved up one rank to occupy third place with 104 rating points, overtaking England, who now have 102 points. This shift is due to England losing weightage from results prior to April 30, 2023, during which they secured victories against New Zealand, South Africa, and Pakistan. Australia remains the leader in the Test rankings with 131 rating points, maintaining a 12-point lead over current Test champions South Africa, who hold 119 points.
