New Delhi: Rashid Khan delivered a stellar performance with the ball, while Shubman Gill showcased his batting prowess as the Gujarat Titans secured a convincing 77-run victory over the Rajasthan Royals in their 11th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, held on Saturday, May 9. Batting first, the Titans posted a formidable score of 229/4, anchored by an 84-run innings from captain Gill. The bowlers then restricted the Royals to just 152 runs at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
Rashid’s bowling was instrumental, as he took four wickets, including key dismissals of Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja, Donovan Ferreira, and Shubham Dubey. His critical breakthroughs came in the seventh over, where he dismissed Jurel with a googly for 24 runs and followed it by removing Ferreira for four with a leg-break, severely denting the Royals’ chase. At that point, the Royals were already struggling at 78/3 during the powerplay.
While the Royals’ opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi began aggressively, scoring 36 runs off 16 balls, Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada quickly rein in the run rate. Siraj’s short-ball strategy saw Sooryavanshi caught at fine leg, while Rabada dismissed stand-in captain Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shimron Hetmyer in quick succession, intensifying the pressure on the Royals.
Rashid returned later to demolish the Royals’ middle and lower order, taking the wickets of Dubey and Jadeja, while Jason Holder contributed by dismissing Jofra Archer and taking the final two wickets of Dasun Shanaka and Tushar Deshpande, sealing the match at a 77-run margin.
Gujarat’s impressive total was bolstered by Gill’s 84 off 44 balls, which included nine fours and three sixes, alongside a classy 55 from Sai Sudharsan off 36 balls. The pair’s 118-run opening partnership set a strong foundation for the Titans. Washington Sundar added crucial runs towards the end, remaining unbeaten on 37 from 20 balls. For Rajasthan, Brijesh Sharma emerged as the standout bowler with figures of 2/47, while Yash Raj Punja and Ravindra Jadeja claimed one wicket each.
This victory propelled the Gujarat Titans to the second position in the IPL 2026 points table with 12 points from 11 matches, improving their chances for a top-four finish, while the Rajasthan Royals slipped from fourth to fifth place.
