New Delhi: Veteran actress Moushumi Chatterjee recently discussed her experiences working with the late actor Rajesh Khanna, with whom she starred in several films, including Anuraag, Prem Bandhan, and Bhola Bhala. During a candid conversation, she reflected on Khanna’s behavior on set and the impact of his immense stardom.
Over the years, several of Khanna’s co-stars and directors have commented on his notorious tardiness and occasional outbursts. Moushumi shared similar sentiments about his temperament, describing him as “a spoiled child” whose success often affected his behavior. In a recent interview with NDTV, she remarked, “He was a spoiled child; success always went to his head.”
As the film industry evolved, the rise of Amitabh Bachchan coincided with a decline in Khanna’s stardom. Reports suggest that this downturn led Khanna into a state of solitude, despair, and alcohol dependency. When asked if she had ever noticed signs of loneliness in him, Moushumi stated, “No; all of this is the fruit of one’s karma. Whatever is happening is all a part of your life.”
Taking a philosophic approach, she continued, “It is about the way you live your life, the way you pretend to be someone you are not, and the way you react to all your relationships.” Moushumi further emphasized the importance of embracing solitude, saying, “If you claim that everyone is lonely, then you must learn to enjoy your time alone. Do not let yourself feel lonely. I enjoy being alone. Everyone goes through this phase in life. Kishore Kumar, Madhubala—everyone has gone through it. Whatever is happening, it is all an integral part of your life.”
