FMC Sells India Operations to Crystal Crop for $252 Million in Strategic Business Move

Global agricultural sciences company FMC Corporation has announced its decision to sell its Indian commercial business to Crystal Crop Protection Ltd for $252 million. This transaction marks a significant consolidation in India’s crop protection market.

The sale involves FMC India Private Ltd and is subject to standard adjustments related to cash, debt, and working capital, as stated by FMC on Thursday. This move follows FMC’s announcement nearly a year ago about its plan to divest its crop protection commercial operations in India as part of a strategy to focus on higher-growth global opportunities, while still remaining active in the Indian market with a revised approach.

FMC has expressed its intent to apply the proceeds from this sale entirely towards debt reduction. The agreement is contingent on obtaining regulatory approvals and fulfilling customary closing conditions.

As part of this agreement, Crystal Crop Protection is set to acquire FMC India’s commercial operations within the crop protection sector, which includes licensing rights for FMC brands operating in India. Additionally, Crystal will establish a preferred supply agreement for select FMC active ingredients and formulated products, granting it prioritized access to FMC’s crop protection product pipeline in India.

“Crystal Crop Protection Limited is well-positioned to serve Indian farmers with FMC’s portfolio of innovative technologies, and we look forward to supporting their growth through our supply agreement,” said Pierre Brondeau, Chairman, CEO, and President of FMC Corporation. He noted that FMC would retain its global research, development, and manufacturing operations in India despite this divestment.

For Crystal Crop Protection, this acquisition is anticipated to enhance its foothold in the agrochemicals market and broaden access to advanced crop protection technologies. “We look forward to welcoming a talented workforce into the Crystal group and aim at accelerating innovation across both chemical and biological domains of crop protection,” said Ankur Aggarwal, Chairman and Managing Director of Crystal Crop Protection.

Established in 1994, Crystal Crop Protection has been active in agrochemicals and seeds, supported by a nationwide distribution network. FMC, headquartered in Philadelphia, is recognized as one of the world’s leading agricultural sciences companies, with operations expanding across biologicals, crop nutrition, and precision agriculture. This acquisition marks one of approximately 15 that Crystal Crop has made in recent years.
