High-Scoring Encounter: Rajasthan Royals Fall Short Against Delhi Capitals

Jaipur: Fans witnessed a thrilling high-scoring match on Friday, May 1, as Rajasthan Royals faced off against Delhi Capitals at Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Despite the home crowd’s disappointment, the game featured impressive batting displays.

The spotlight was on 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and his challenge against seasoned bowler Mitchell Starc. Unfortunately for Royals, Sooryavanshi was dismissed early by Kyle Jamieson.

Starc, making his debut in the IPL 2026 season, showcased his skills with a three-wicket haul. However, Riyan Parag became the standout performer, scoring 90 runs off 50 balls. After a disappointing season thus far, Parag’s innings proved pivotal in allowing the Royals to assert their dominance with the bat. Dhurv Jurel also contributed significantly, adding 42 runs before falling to the bowler.

To secure a robust finish, Donovan Ferreira came to the fore, launching a late onslaught that saw him score an unbeaten 47 runs off just 14 deliveries. This explosive finale enabled Rajasthan to post a formidable total of 225 runs in the first innings. Though Starc had a notable performance, he ended with an expensive final over, conceding 40 runs in four overs.

Second Innings Breakdown

In response, Delhi Capitals, led by KL Rahul and returning Pathum Nissanka, initiated an aggressive chase. The pair established a strong 110-run partnership, providing a solid foundation for the innings. Nissanka was impactful during his innings, scoring 62 runs off 33 balls, while Rahul continued the momentum with 75 runs off 40 deliveries, receiving support from Nitish Rana, who contributed 33 runs off 17 balls.

Following the quick dismissals of Nissanka and Rahul, Delhi’s middle order faced brief pressure. However, Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma steadied the ship, ultimately guiding the team to victory with five balls to spare. With this win by seven wickets, Delhi Capitals achieved their highest successful chase in IPL history and solidified their position in the playoff race, now led by Axar Patel.
