New Delhi: Sunil Narine played a pivotal role for the Kolkata Knight Riders, leading them to victory in a thrilling Super Over against the Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on April 26. The match concluded dramatically when Mohammed Shami hit a six off the last ball of LSG’s chase, resulting in a tie at 156 runs and pushing the game into the Super Over. Narine, during the Super Over, bowled out the Lucknow batsmen for a mere one run, while Rinku Singh, who had previously kept KKR in the match, hit the winning runs on the first ball of the Super Over.

The match reached its climax in the final over of regulation play, where LSG required 17 runs with Himmat Singh and Mohammed Shami at the crease. Kartik Tyagi bowled the last over but faced difficulties, delivering two full-tosses above waist height. Himmat managed to lower the requirement to eight runs off four balls.

Himmat was dismissed on the third ball after being caught at deep square, resulting in Rinku Singh’s fourth catch of the match. The penultimate balls yielded just one run, setting up a dramatic conclusion where Shami struck a six off Tyagi on the final ball, tying the match and forcing a Super Over.

In the Super Over, LSG opted for Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran to bat against Sunil Narine. Narine, known for his effectiveness against Pooran, bowled him out on the first delivery. Rishabh Pant replaced Pooran and secured a single before Markram was dismissed, caught at long-on by Rinku Singh and Rovman Powell. KKR’s chase in the Super Over then involved Rinku Singh and Powell, who faced Prince Yadav. Rinku connected with a sliced shot to claim the winning boundaries.

This victory marks KKR’s second win of the season, allowing them to rise from the bottom of the IPL 2026 points table.

Rinku Singh’s remarkable unbeaten 83 under pressure was a significant factor in KKR’s performance, bringing them to a total of 155/7 despite an impressive bowling display from Mohsin Khan, who took 5 wickets for 23 runs. After KKR struggled at 93/7, Rinku’s innings, which included four consecutive sixes in the final over, raised his total to 83 runs off 51 balls (7 fours, 5 sixes). His aggressive batting in the final overs propelled KKR past the 150-run mark, scoring 43 runs in the last two overs.
