Volkswagen has officially unveiled the India-specific Tayron R-Line SUV ahead of its market debut, marking a notable re-entry into the three-row SUV segment after the discontinuation of the Tiguan Allspace in 2021. Positioned as a premium model, the Tayron R-Line will sit above the Tiguan R-Line in Volkswagen’s local lineup. The expected price range for the Tayron in India is between Rs 45 lakh and Rs 50 lakh, with the vehicle to be assembled as a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) unit. Further details regarding the Tayron’s launch date in India are anticipated.
The Tayron R-Line features sporty bumpers, 19-inch alloy wheels, and an aggressive design, as depicted in teaser images released by the automaker. Built on the MQB EVO platform, it shares components with the Tiguan R-Line but boasts a longer wheelbase of 2,789mm, which is 109mm longer than the Tiguan, accommodating an additional row of seating. The vehicle has also earned a 5-star rating in crash tests from Euro NCAP.
Inside, the Tayron R-Line offers a range of premium features, including a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, leather upholstery for the front seats with massage and ventilation functions, a digital driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, and 30 color options for ambient lighting. The SUV provides substantial storage, with up to 850 liters of boot space when the third row is folded down.
Under the hood, the Tayron is anticipated to be powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, similar to that found in the Taigun, producing 204hp and 320Nm of torque. This engine will be paired with a 7-speed DCT automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive configuration. The Tayron R-Line is expected to launch by March 2025, competing with rivals such as the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, and MG Gloster.
