Navi Mumbai: In a thrilling encounter during the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026, Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur showcased her exceptional talent against Gujarat Giants. Chasing a target of 193 runs, the Mumbai team faced early challenges. However, Harmanpreet’s entrance to the crease transformed the dynamics of the match at DY Patil Sports Academy. She was well-supported by Nicole Carey, who contributed an unbeaten 38 runs off 23 balls, leading Mumbai to a seven-wicket victory.
Harmanpreet’s impressive performance included a score of 71 not out off 43 balls, marking her as the first Indian cricketer to surpass 1,000 runs in WPL history. Overall, she became the second player after Nat Sciver-Brunt to achieve this milestone. Meg Lanning, the current captain of UP Warriorz, ranks third in total runs in the tournament, just shy of reaching the four-figure mark.
Most Runs in WPL History:
| Player | Runs |
|---|---|
| Nat Sciver-Brunt | 1101 |
| Harmanpreet Kaur | 1016 |
| Meg Lanning | 996 |
| Elysse Perry | 972 |

Gujarat Giants began strong, with Georgia Wareham and Bharti Fulmali making significant contributions. Wareham anchored the innings with an unbeaten 43 runs from 33 balls, while Fulmali unleashed a flurry of shots, scoring 36 not out off just 15 balls. Beth Mooney set the initial momentum for the team with 33 runs. However, Gujarat’s middle-order struggle was evident, as debutant Ayushi Soni could only muster 11 runs from 14 balls before being retired out. The late efforts from Bharti added some respectability to their total, though it proved insufficient.
Mumbai Registers Record Chase
On January 13, Mumbai achieved their highest-ever successful chase in WPL history against Gujarat. Amanjot Kaur, batting at number three, set a strong pace with a score of 40 runs, paving the way for Harmanpreet’s explosive innings. Her performance overshadowed Gujarat’s strategies, as she appeared unstoppable throughout her innings. This match also marked the second-highest chase in WPL history, with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) holding the record for the highest.
