Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan led a Satyagraha against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Union government on Monday, accusing it of imposing a financial blockade on the state. He asserted that Kerala remains resilient despite the challenges posed by the central government.

During the launch of the Satyagraha at the Martyr’s Column, CM Vijayan criticized the Union government for prioritizing strategies that suffocate Kerala, rather than focusing on developmental initiatives. He refuted claims that the state’s financial crisis is due to excessive spending by the government, pointing to the December 2025 report from the Comptroller and Auditor General that he believes paints a different picture.

“Why are you disapproving of the state because of your hatred for the LDF government? What wrong did the state do?” Vijayan emphasized. He termed the Union’s decision to withhold adequate funding for relief efforts following the Wayanad landslide as an act of “cruelty,” alleging that the Union extends financial assistance preferentially to states aligned with it politically, neglecting Kerala’s legitimate needs.

Vijayan also highlighted that allocations under significant schemes tied to the Prime Minister have not been disbursed, which he argued illustrates deliberate neglect of the state. In response to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent comments, the Chief Minister stated that Shah’s plans for Kerala would not bear fruit.

Additionally, Vijayan took aim at the Congress and the United Democratic Front (UDF), accusing them of failing to address Kerala’s funding crisis and of softening their stance on communalism. He alleged that, in pursuit of electoral gains, these parties have aligned themselves with the ideology of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He also voiced strong opposition to the recently enacted VB G Ram G Bill.

Revenue Minister K. Rajan, addressing the gathering, underscored that Kerala has managed to maintain its welfare initiatives despite financial constraints, highlighting that pensions, job connection programs, and women’s security measures are being upheld.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) state secretary M.V. Govindan alleged that the Union government is withholding ₹57,000 crore annually that rightfully belongs to Kerala. Communist Party of India state secretary Binoy Viswam echoed this sentiment, asserting that the central government shows indifference to the plight of the state’s residents due to their electoral leanings.

The Satyagraha witnessed significant participation from various ministers, including K. Krishnankutty, Kadannappally Ramachandran, P.A. Muhammed Riyas, M.B. Rajesh, P. Rajeev, K.N. Balagopal, Saji Cherian, Roshy Augustine, J. Chinjurani, V. Sivankutty, R. Bindhu, A.K. Saseendran, P. Prasad, G.R. Anil, V.N. Vasavan, and K.B. Ganesh Kumar.
