Volkswagen is preparing to introduce a new flagship SUV in India, having commenced promotional teasers for the upcoming model. While the automaker has yet to confirm the name, preliminary teasers and industry analyses suggest that it will be the Volkswagen Tayron, which is already sold in international markets. The initial teaser features the SUV covered by a white veil, hinting at its exterior design.
Volkswagen Tayron Exterior Highlights
The teaser provides insight into the SUV’s front fascia, showcasing illuminated lights and a full-width LED strip that integrates smoothly with the headlights. A glimpse of the rear reveals connected taillights and an illuminated Volkswagen logo. Although this illuminated logo stands out, its inclusion in the final production model for India has yet to be confirmed. Reports indicate that the India-specific variant may feature cosmetic enhancements to set it apart from the global version.
Furthermore, while the international Tayron comes outfitted with 17-inch alloy wheels, reports suggest that the Indian model may incorporate larger 19-inch rims, akin to those seen on the Tiguan R-Line.
Volkswagen Tayron Powertrain and Performance
Under the hood, the Volkswagen Tayron is expected to house a 2.0-liter TSI petrol engine, the same unit that powers the Tiguan R-Line. This engine is projected to generate 204 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque and will be paired with a 7-speed DSG (dual-clutch) automatic transmission. To enhance traction and performance, the SUV will likely be available with Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system.
Volkswagen Tayron Launch Timeline and Pricing
The launch of the SUV is anticipated in the first half of 2026, with projected pricing estimated between Rs 45 lakh and Rs 50 lakh. It is expected to be imported to India via the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) method and assembled locally at Volkswagen’s manufacturing facility in Aurangabad, Maharashtra.
