New Delhi:

Mahindra has initiated its revamped mid-size SUV lineup with the launch of the XUV 7XO, priced competitively starting at Rs 13.66 lakh (ex-showroom). This model is not a complete redesign but a significant facelift of the popular XUV700, now featuring advanced styling and technological enhancements. Aligning with Mahindra’s updated naming strategy, which includes the XUV 3XO, the XUV 7XO competes directly against established competitors such as the Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, and Hyundai Alcazar, offering improved aesthetics, technology, and safety features at an accessible price point.

Exterior: EV-inspired edge and angular aggression

The XUV 7XO takes design inspiration from Mahindra’s future electric models like the XEV 9E and XEV 9S, showcasing a sharper and more dynamic appearance. The front end features angular LED headlamps paired with boomerang daytime running lights (DRLs) and a sculpted grille, giving it a fierce look. While the side profile maintains the XUV700’s robust silhouette, it is enhanced by new alloy wheels. At the rear, a full-width LED taillight bar adorned with geometric patterns and a reconfigured bumper adds a contemporary feel, merging traditional proportions with modern aesthetics.

Interior: Triple-screen tech haven and luxury leap

Inside, the XUV 7XO’s cabin is elevated to luxurious standards with new upholstery and an upscale atmosphere. The highlight is a triple-screen setup, which includes a digital driver’s cluster, a large central infotainment touchscreen, and a separate display for passengers. The two-spoke steering wheel and touch-based climate control replace traditional knobs, providing a minimalist design. Premium features are abundant, including a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, “Boss Mode” electric adjustments for passengers, wireless charging, dual-zone climate control, and an advanced 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system equipped with Dolby Atmos technology.

Powertrains: Proven punch with smoother ride

Mahindra continues to use successful powertrains, including a potent 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine generating 200 bhp and a versatile 2.2-liter diesel option with power output reaching up to 185 bhp. Customers can choose between a 6-speed manual or a torque-converter automatic transmission, with the diesel variant also offering all-wheel drive. The retuned suspension aims to enhance comfort for highway driving and maneuverability in urban settings, further improving the XUV700’s already praised performance.

Safety and ADAS: Five-star aspirant with cutting-edge aids

Safety is a priority for Mahindra, building on the XUV700’s five-star rating from Global NCAP, targeting similar standards with Bharat NCAP. Key safety features include a 540-degree camera, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold functionality, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite that includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automated emergency braking—aimed at ensuring family safety.

Verdict: A game-changer in disguise?

With a launch price designed to attract attention, the XUV 7XO combines evolutionary improvements with groundbreaking technology, positioning Mahindra to capture a larger share of the competitive SUV segment. Bookings are now open, and it remains to be seen if this model will redefine the family SUV market. Test drives will provide further insights into its capabilities.
