Thiruvananthapuram: India’s women’s cricket team faced Sri Lanka in the fourth T20I of their five-match series at the Greenfield International Stadium on December 28. After losing the toss, India was put in to bat first.
The opening partnership between Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma was remarkable, with Mandhana scoring 80 runs and Verma contributing 79, propelling India to a total of 221 runs in their innings. Additionally, Richa Ghosh made a significant impact, scoring 40 runs off just 16 balls, including three sixes and four fours. For Sri Lanka, Malsha Shehani and Nimasha Meepage were the only bowlers to claim wickets, each taking one as India showcased their batting prowess.
Chamari Athapaththu’s Knock in Vain as India Register Fourth Win in a Row During the run chase, Sri Lanka’s innings began with Hasini Perera and Chamari Athapaththu, who scored 33 and 52 runs, respectively. Imesha Dulani and Harshitha Samarawickrama added 29 and 20 runs to the total. However, India’s bowling attack proved too formidable for the Sri Lankan side. Athapaththu’s half-century was a highlight for the visitors, sustaining their hopes early in the chase.
In the bowling department, Vaishnavi Sharma and Arundhati Reddy were notable for India, both taking two wickets, while Shree Charani claimed one. Ultimately, India won the match by 30 runs, marking their fourth consecutive victory in the series.
