Deadly Bijapur Clash: 12 Maoists, 3 Security Personnel Killed in Gunfight

Twelve suspected Maoists and three personnel of the Chhattisgarh District Reserve Guard (DRG) were killed in a gunfight in Bijapur district on Wednesday.

The security personnel who died were identified as Head Constable Monu Wadadi, and Constables Dujaru Gonde and Ramesh Sodi.

According to unidentified officials quoted by The Indian Express, the encounter occurred during a joint operation launched by security forces following intelligence inputs about Maoist presence in the area.

Teams from the DRG units of Bijapur and Dantewada, the Special Task Force, and the Central Reserve Police Force’s Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) participated in the operation.

With this incident, a total of 275 suspected Maoists have been killed in gunfights across Chhattisgarh so far this year.

While the government describes the rising toll as a success of intensified anti-Naxal operations, human rights activists continue to allege that many of these deaths amount to extrajudicial killings.

Several families of those killed have also disputed the authorities’ claims, insisting that the deceased were civilians and not Maoists.
