Equity benchmarks were on an upward trajectory Thursday afternoon, with both the Nifty 50 and the Sensex approaching their historic highs as broad-based buying buoyed market sentiment. At approximately 1 p.m., the Nifty stood at 26,171.60, reflecting an increase of 118.95 points (0.46 percent) from the previous close of 26,052.65. The index commenced trading at 26,132.10 and reached an intraday peak of 26,184.75, exceeding its previous 52-week high of 26,104.20. The lowest point during the session was recorded at 26,063.20.

The Sensex was trading at 85,564.42, gaining 377.95 points (0.44 percent) from its previous close of 85,186.47. The index opened firmly at 85,470.92 and consistently climbed higher, remaining close to its all-time high of 85,978.25. The Nifty’s gain of 118.95 points, or 0.46 percent, brought it to 26,171.60, surpassing its earlier record of 26,104.20, following an opening at 26,132.10 compared to Wednesday’s close.

Market breadth remained positive with 2,036 stocks advancing and 1,968 declining on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), where a total of 4,211 stocks were traded. Notably, 122 stocks achieved 52-week highs while 141 stocks reached 52-week lows. Additionally, 141 stocks were locked in the upper circuit and 164 in the lower circuit.

Sectoral indices exhibited mixed performance. The Nifty Financial Services sector rose by 172.65 points (0.62 percent) to 27,815.45, while the Nifty Bank index increased by 110.80 points (0.19 percent) to 59,332.05. The Nifty Midcap 100 rose by 171.65 points (0.28 percent) to 61,133.25, and the Nifty Smallcap 100 advanced by 28.45 points (0.16 percent) to 18,105.30. Furthermore, the Nifty Next 50 gained 133.75 points (0.19 percent) to 69,766.90.

Among the gainers on the Nifty, Eicher Motors led with a rise of 2.91 percent to ₹7,097.50, followed by Bajaj Finserv, which climbed 2.15 percent to ₹2,094.30. Reliance Industries also saw an increase of 1.69 percent to ₹1,544.50, while Tech Mahindra rose 1.40 percent to ₹1,454, and Bajaj Finance added 1.36 percent to ₹1,019.30.

In contrast, the losing side included Asian Paints, which fell 1.17 percent to ₹2,859.90, and HCL Technologies, which declined 0.52 percent to ₹1,653.90. Maruti Suzuki slipped 0.48 percent to ₹15,693, Tata Steel dropped 0.32 percent to ₹172.65, and Tata Motors fell 0.30 percent to ₹359.75.

The market rally continued to build on gains from the morning session, with 34 stocks advancing and 15 declining on the Nifty at mid-session.
