Sensex traded 403.65 pts or 0.47 per cent higher at 85,590.12 at 1.18 pm, hitting a fresh high of 85,699.73. Nifty 50 surged 150.40 pts or 0.58 per cent to 26,203.05 (hitting an intraday high of 26,215.35) scaling above 26200 level for the first time since September 2024.

Top movers today
Shares of Eicher Motors, Bajaj Finserv, Reliance, Tech Mahindra and Bajaj Finance led the gainers of Nifty 50, while Asian Paints, Maruti, HCL Tech, Sun Pharma and Titan depreciated the most.
A total of 3,122 stocks were traded on the NSE, of which 1,521 advanced, 1,503 declined and 98 remained unchanged. About 72 stocks such as Axis Bank, Hero Motocorp, Bank of Baroda, Bharat Forge and MCX, scaled to their 52-week high, while 108 hit the 52-week low.
In addition, 68 stocks hit the upper circuit and 46 hit the lower circuit.
Under the midcap stocks, 360 One WAM, Hero Motocorp, Cochin Shipyard, Waaree Energies and Bharti Hexacom soared 2 per cent, while Biocon, Vodafone Idea, Vishal Mega Mart, LTF and NMDC declined 1.5-4 per cent.
Natco Pharma, Radico, GRSE, Zen Tech and Afcons soared 3-7 per cent among the smallcap stocks, while Lal Path Labs, Welspun Corp, Neuland Lab and Sagility declined 2 per cent.
