New Delhi: Many newcomers in the film industry embark on their journeys by taking on small roles, striving for recognition, while others find their paths shaped by fate. One such actor is Aditya Roy Kapur, who transitioned from his role as a video jockey on Channel V India to a successful film career. He hosted shows like “Pakao” and “India’s Hottest” from 2007 until 2008 before moving into acting.
In an interview with Mashable India, the 40-year-old actor shared insights about how he landed his initial role as a VJ. “I stumbled upon my first job as a VJ. At that time, I wasn’t doing much with my life apart from going to Goa and partying, just sitting in cars outside colleges without actually entering them. A friend of my brother who worked with Channel V said, ‘Let him come and audition,’ because I had this afro look. I looked the part and ended up getting the job. I wasn’t especially inclined towards it, as I was never into anything performance-related; my elder brother was always the one into theatre,” he stated.
Kapur made his acting debut in the film “London Dreams,” released in 2009, where he portrayed Zoheb Hayaat Khan, a supporting role in a cast that included Ajay Devgn, Asin, Salman Khan, and Ranvijay Singh. He gained widespread recognition for his lead role in the 2013 film “Aashiqui 2,” alongside Shraddha Kapoor. Over the years, he has appeared in various successful projects, including “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani,” “Ludo,” and the recent series “The Night Manager.”
On the work front, Kapur’s latest appearance was in Anurag Basu’s film “Metro… In Dino,” where he shared the screen with prominent actors such as Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Sara Ali Khan, Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, and Konkona Sen Sharma.
