An RSS activist from Thiruvananthapuram has died by suicide after reportedly being denied a BJP ticket for the upcoming local body elections. The deceased, identified as Anand K. Thampi of Trikkannapuram, was aspiring to contest for the Trikkannapuram ward of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.
According to authorities, Anand was discovered dead in a shed behind his home on Saturday evening. Friends who received a distress message from him rushed to the scene and took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Earlier that day, Anand had sent a WhatsApp message to his friends, indicating he was facing persistent harassment from both BJP and RSS workers and expressing his intent to end his life. He was reportedly devastated after learning that his name was excluded from the BJP’s candidate list for the ward.
Following this, Anand publicly declared his intention to run as an independent candidate on social media. In his WhatsApp message, he claimed that he had informed RSS activists about his desire to contest but felt sidelined due to the interests of certain local leaders associated with a sand-smuggling operation.
After announcing his independent candidacy, Anand mentioned that many friends distanced themselves from him, exacerbating his emotional turmoil. A suicide note found at his residence echoed these claims, alleging he had been marginalized after “a land mafia gang took control of the RSS and BJP.” He accused the party of choosing Vinod Kumar, whom Anand described as part of the land-mafia network, as the ward candidate.
Anand expressed in the note that he endured significant mental pressure from BJP and RSS workers, stating that his involvement with the RSS led him to the brink of suicide. He requested that no BJP or RSS workers be allowed near his body and expressed a wish that others not suffer a similar fate.
The note concluded with Anand reflecting on his life as an RSS worker, stating, “The biggest mistake of my life was that I lived as an RSS worker. Until just before this death, I had lived only as an RSS activist. That is what has brought me to the point of having to take my own life today.”
This incident marks the second reported suicide by an RSS worker in two months, with both cases alleging harassment and mistreatment from the organization. On October 9, Anandu Aji, 26, from Elikkulam in Kottayam, was found dead in a hotel room in Thampanoor, Thiruvananthapuram, with his suicide note accusing RSS members of sexual abuse and mental torture, sparking political uproar.
Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Anand’s death, and a case will be registered based on statements from his family members.
