New Delhi: Renuka Singh Thakur was honored in her ancestral village, Parsa, located in the Rohru subdivision of Shimla district, following her outstanding performance in securing the Women’s World Cup 2025 for the Indian team. In the final, she delivered an impressive bowling performance with figures of 0/28 and took three wickets throughout the tournament, despite not being a confirmed starter in all matches.
Upon her arrival at Parsa, Renuka was warmly received by the villagers, who showcased a documentary made in her honor. Expressing her gratitude, she told ANI, “I feel really happy to be here, especially because of the documentary they (villagers and administrators) made for me. I think this is the best gift I could have received.”
Before the celebration in her village, Renuka visited the Hateshwari Mata Temple in Hatkoti to express her thanks for the Indian women’s historic World Cup victory. She attributed her success to her coach and the individuals who have supported her along her journey to becoming a world champion.
Renuka’s rise from age-group cricket in Himachal Pradesh to world champion has been notable. Since her debut for India in 2021, she has been a vital bowler for the national team. She acknowledged her mother’s steadfast support as instrumental in realizing her cricket aspirations. “I do not have any words for my mother’s struggle. No amount of words can be enough to describe her struggle. I would like to give credit for this to everyone, my coaches and all the people who have helped me right from my childhood,” she remarked.
Additionally, she expressed gratitude towards her uncle for identifying her talent and supporting her throughout her career. “My mother played a big role in my success. I also worked very hard, and my uncle supported me a lot. Had he not seen me and sent me (to an academy) at the right time, I would not be here,” she stated.
