New Delhi: The Ashes 2025-26 series is poised to begin as Australia and England prepare for a clash over five Test matches. The first Test will commence on November 21 at Optus Stadium in Perth. Ahead of the series, former England captain Michael Vaughan expressed his confidence in Ben Stokes and the team achieving success.

Notably, England’s last Test victory on Australian soil was in 2011, and there is optimism within the squad, particularly due to the aggressive style of cricket promoted by Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum.

In remarks made prior to the series, Vaughan commented on the significance of winning, stating, “I think they need a trophy. I mean, would I take two-all now? Probably, let’s be honest.” He reflected on England’s limited success in previous series, noting that the 2010-11 season marked their only significant achievement, with one match victory in 2002-03 and three in 2010-11. “We haven’t won a Test since,” he added, suggesting a draw might be a realistic goal given the context of recent performances.

Furthermore, Vaughan emphasized that the upcoming Ashes series represents a critical opportunity for England, highlighting Stokes’ potential to secure the coveted urn. “But I think Ben and his mentality, and the way that he plays his cricket, this is his moment. He has to deliver and he has to get that urn in his hand,” he stated. Vaughan noted that expectations within the dressing room would be high, indicating that the team aims to win this series.
