Raghvendra Pratap Singh, a former BJP MLA from Domariyaganj in Uttar Pradesh, has ignited controversy following his remarks suggesting that Hindu youths who bring Muslim girls would be rewarded with jobs. His speech, captured in a viral video, has been met with widespread condemnation for being interpreted as a call for abduction and forcible conversion.

In the video, Singh, known for his history of inflammatory comments against Muslims, explicitly stated, “The Hindu boy who brings a Muslim girl, we will arrange a job for him.” This sentiment reportedly elicited cheers from attendees at the gathering.

Sanjay Singh, the national spokesperson for the Aam Aadmi Party, responded vehemently to the remarks, labeling them “a direct incitement to criminality” and called for immediate police intervention. On social media platform X, he stated, “If a leader publicly urges abduction and forced conversion, the law must follow. We cannot have a double standard where the UP police file cases against Muslims on flimsy grounds but look the other way when Hindu leaders incite violence. Arrest him now or the claim that law is equal for all will ring hollow.”

Furthermore, Sanjay Singh raised concerns about the implications of such statements on societal values, questioning, “Which Hindu parent would want their son to be celebrated for abducting a girl? Is this the identity we want for Hinduism in the world — one tied to coercion and criminality?” He urged civil society and administration officials to treat the incident as both a public-order and a hate crime.

Legal experts specializing in human rights noted that if Singh’s comments are thoroughly investigated, they could result in charges including criminal intimidation, abduction, and violations of laws pertaining to hate speech and coercion regarding religious conversion. They urged the district administration to file a First Information Report (FIR) and take steps to protect potential victims.

This incident occurs amid allegations from opposition groups that law enforcement in Uttar Pradesh selectively applies justice, often targeting Muslim communities while overlooking provocative actions by right-wing Hindu groups.
