New Delhi: The T20I series between Bangladesh and West Indies kicks off with both teams in contrasting form. Bangladesh seeks to secure its fifth consecutive T20I series victory, having won all four series they have played this year. In contrast, the West Indies are eager to end a troubling streak of seven consecutive bilateral T20I series losses.
Last week, the two sides faced each other in an ODI series, which Bangladesh won 2-1, highlighted by the Windies’ narrow win in the second match that was decided by a Super Over. Although Bangladesh is currently performing well, the team is aiming to break a 14-year drought, having not defeated the West Indies in a T20I series at home since their one-off win in October 2011.
The West Indies have visited Bangladesh for T20I series on two occasions since then, coming away with a 1-0 victory in December 2012 and a 2-1 win in December 2018. Overall, the teams have faced each other in T20Is only 19 times, with the West Indies holding a slim 9-8 lead, including two matches that ended without a result.
Bangladesh is benefiting from a strong performance, recently securing victories against Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and the Netherlands. Despite a setback in the Asia Cup, they bounced back by sweeping Afghanistan 3-0 in Dubai. The return of captain Litton Das, who missed the last two matches in the Asia Cup due to a rib injury, provides a significant boost as he is set to open the batting for his team.
On the other hand, the West Indies are desperately trying to break their losing streak, which includes an unexpected defeat to Nepal in September. Their last T20I series win was in August 2024, when they convincingly defeated South Africa 3-0 at home.
