Vodafone Idea shares fell by 2.49 percent to ₹9.38 on Monday morning, coinciding with the Supreme Court’s hearing on the telecom operator’s appeal to dismiss additional adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues amounting to ₹9,450 crore. The stock initially opened at ₹9.62 and reached a peak of ₹9.80 before declining to a low of ₹9.28 during the trading session.

A bench featuring Chief Justice B R Gavai and Justices K Vinod Chandran and Vipul M Pancholi is presiding over the case, which was postponed from October 13 at the request of the central government for additional time. Vodafone Idea is contesting the Department of Telecom’s demand for ₹5,606 crore in extra AGR dues pertaining to the fiscal year 2016-17, stating that it falls beyond the remit of the Supreme Court’s 2019 decision.

The central government, which owns a 49 percent stake in Vodafone Idea following a ₹53,000 crore debt-to-equity conversion in 2021, has previously suggested that efforts are underway to facilitate a resolution. Reports have indicated that the government is contemplating a one-time settlement that could involve waiving interest and penalties.

In August, however, Union Minister Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani dismissed the possibility of providing additional relief to the debt-stricken company. The stock exhibited significant selling pressure, with sell orders amounting to 10.05 crore shares compared to buy orders of 4.03 crore shares.
