Indore:

Two Australia women cricketers, currently participating in the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, were allegedly stalked, and one of them was molested by a man on a motorcycle in Indore, according to PTI. On Friday, the police arrested the stalker.

It is worth noting that the incident occurred in the Khajrana Road area on Thursday morning, an official said. According to the police, the two cricketers had stepped out of the hotel and were walking towards a cafe when the man started to follow them on the motorcycle.

Allegedly, the man touched one of the cricketers inappropriately and rode off. Shortly after the incident, the duo contacted their team security officer, Danny Simmons, who quickly got in contact with local security liaison officers who dispatched the vehicle to assist the cricketers.

Furthermore, on getting the information about the incident, the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Himani Mishra, met with the two players and recorded their statements before registering a first information report. The officials also stated that a bystander noted the suspect’s plate number, through which the accused, Akil Khan, was apprehended.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia gave his take on the incident

Furthermore, the secretary of the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), Devajit Saiki,a took centre stage and gave his take on the matter. He brought to light the swift action taken by the state police to apprehend the suspect at the earliest.

“It is a very unfortunate incident. This type of incident brings disrepute. We appreciate the State Police (Madhya Pradesh) for their prompt action to nab the culprit. Let the law take its course to punish the culprit,” Saikia was quoted as saying by ANI.

It is worth noting that the accused has had a report filed against him under section 74 (use of criminal force to outrage a woman’s modesty) and 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the MIG police station. Additionally, Cricket Australia came forwrad and confirmed the incident with a statement as well. “CA can confirm two members of the Australian Women’s team were approached and touched inappropriately by a motorcyclist while walking to a cafe in Indore. The matter was reported by team security to police, who are handling the matter,” the statement read.
