UP CM Decries Halal Certification as Major Assault on Sanatan Dharma at RSS Gathering

In his latest statement targeting Muslims, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched an attack on the practice of Halal certification, calling it “the greatest attack on Sanatan Dharma.”

Addressing the centenary celebrations of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Gorakhpur on Wednesday, Adityanath claimed that funds from Halal-certified products were being used to “finance terrorism, love jihad, and religious conversions.”

“When purchasing any item, check if it has a Halal certification label. We have banned it in Uttar Pradesh. Today, no one in Uttar Pradesh will dare to buy or sell it,” he said at the gathering.

“When we initiated the proceedings, ₹25,000 crore was earned through Halal certification within the country, and no agency of the Indian government or any state government had recognized it. All this money was being misused,” he added.

Adityanath further linked Halal certification to what he termed a “larger conspiracy” under “political Islam.”

“We have arrested Jalaluddin (Changur Baba) in Balrampur as an example. Why is there no discussion about political Islam? Our ancestors also fought against political Islam,” he said.

The remarks were made in the presence of senior RSS functionaries, local leaders, and party workers.

Earlier this year, the Uttar Pradesh government imposed a ban on the sale and distribution of Halal-certified products within the state, claiming that several private bodies were issuing “unauthorized certifications” that “violate food safety laws” and “threaten social harmony.”

However, food industry experts have dismissed these claims, pointing out that Halal certification, like Kosher labeling, is a voluntary market practice followed across the world to indicate compliance with certain dietary guidelines.

Opposition parties and Muslim organizations strongly condemned Adityanath’s speech, calling it an attempt to polarize voters ahead of key civic and bypoll elections.
