India Faces Third Consecutive Loss in Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 Against England

New Delhi: India experienced their third consecutive defeat in the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, falling short against England at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Sunday, October 19.

Having already lost matches to South Africa and Australia, the co-hosts struggled, failing to chase down a target of 289 runs by just four runs. Initially, India had started the tournament strong with wins against Sri Lanka and Pakistan. However, the recent trio of losses has considerably impacted their chances.

The Indian batting lineup appeared to be in control for most of the second innings, with notable contributions from Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana, scoring 70 and 88 runs, respectively. Deepti Sharma added a significant 50 runs off 57 balls, but the team faltered in the final moments, losing crucial wickets and finishing with a total of 284 runs.

Following this result, England secured their place in the semifinals, becoming the third team to do so, joining Australia and South Africa. Currently, India sits in fourth place on the points table with four points from five matches, retaining some hope for semifinal qualification. The team now finds itself in a must-win situation, requiring victories in their remaining matches against New Zealand and Bangladesh.

If India manages to defeat New Zealand, who will face England in their final match, they can prevent the White Ferns from reaching eight points. New Zealand also holds four points from five matches, bolstered by two points from matches that were washed out.

Should India lose to New Zealand, they must still defeat Bangladesh and hope for a New Zealand loss against England in the concluding match. While India’s fate remains within their own control, securing victories in their upcoming games is essential to advance to the semifinals.
