The domestic stock market experienced a notable rally today, with the BSE Sensex rising over 660 points, reaching the 83,200 mark, while the Nifty 50 surpassed the 25,500 threshold. This upward trend was fueled by a mix of domestic and international influences, including investor expectations for a potential interest rate reduction by the US Federal Reserve and optimism surrounding ongoing India-US trade discussions.

As of 1:13 PM, the benchmark indices traded near their day’s highs. The Sensex was up 640.10 points, or 0.77 percent, at 83,245.53, and the Nifty 50 increased by 197.10 points, or 0.78 percent, to 25,520.65.

The midcap index reported modest gains of 0.52 percent, while the smallcap index rose by 0.21 percent. On the sectoral front, all indices, excluding PSU Bank and pharmaceuticals, recorded positive performance, with the realty, consumer durables, FMCG, auto, and private bank indices rising between 1 and 2 percent.

Shares from Nestle India, Titan, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), and Tata Motors topped the list of Nifty 50 gainers, while HDFC Life, Shriram Finance, Infosys, Sun Pharma, and TCS posted the most significant declines.

The surge in the private bank index followed the release of Axis Bank’s Q2 results, with the stock rising nearly 4 percent during early trading.

A total of 3,062 stocks were traded on the National Stock Exchange at the time of reporting, with 1,777 advancing, 1,179 declining, and 106 remaining unchanged.

The market recorded 72 stocks reaching their 52-week highs, including Bajaj Finance, HDFC Asset Management Company (AMC), Eternal, Canara Bank, Indian Bank, and Bank of Maharashtra. In contrast, 50 stocks reached their 52-week lows. Additionally, 67 stocks were in the upper circuit, reflecting considerable buying activity, while 38 stocks were in the lower circuit, indicating notable selling pressure.

Overall, the data suggest a prevailing bullish sentiment in the market, bolstered by widespread gains among many equities.

Within the midcap segment, stocks such as Oberoi Realty, BSE, Godrej Properties, Swiggy, and Bharti Hexacom registered gains of 3-5 percent, while KEI Industries, MFSL, Coromandel, Glenmark, and IDFC First Bank saw declines between 2-6 percent.

In the smallcap sector, BLS International, Ola Electric, Whirlpool, and KPIL surged by 2-10 percent, whereas Anant Raj, Delhivery, and IGIL faced drops of 2-3 percent.

Following the Q2 results released today, shares of Nestle and Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) reacted significantly. Results from Eternal, Wipro, Jio Financial, Cyient, LTIMindtree, Punjab & Sind Bank (PSB), Waaree Energies, and Zee Entertainment are expected later in the day.
