Australia’s women’s cricket team achieved a historic victory against India in the Women’s World Cup 2025 held at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on October 12. India set a challenging target, scoring 330 runs, with notable performances from Pratika Rawal and Smriti Mandhana.

Despite India’s solid total, Australia successfully chased it down, with Alyssa Healy leading the charge with an impressive 142 runs and Ellyse Perry remaining unbeaten at 47. This marked the highest successful run chase in the history of Women’s One Day Internationals, resulting in a three-wicket victory for Australia.

In the aftermath of the match, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur addressed her team’s performance, stating her belief that they fell short by 30 to 40 runs. “The way we started, we could have added more 30-40 runs. We missed runs in the last six overs, and that cost us. I knew it was a good batting wicket, but not capitalizing in the last six overs hurt us. The openers have been outstanding; their contributions have helped us score 300 runs. The last five overs were crucial. In the last three games, we struggled in the middle overs. Our lower order took responsibility today; the first 40 overs went well,” Kaur reflected during the post-match presentation.

Looking ahead, Kaur emphasized the importance of showing intent in future matches. “It matters how we bounce back; these situations occur. [Charani] has been exceptional; she bowled well today against their batters. Even while Healy was batting, she didn’t make things easy. We have high hopes for her to provide breakthroughs. We’ll discuss the bowling line-up, and this combination has led us to success. Two poor games won’t define our journey,” she concluded.
