Harmanpreet Kaur’s Toss Trouble: Australia Chooses to Bowl Again in World Cup Match

Visakhapatnam: The Indian Women’s cricket team continued their unfortunate trend, losing their sixth consecutive toss in One Day Internationals (ODIs) during a critical match against Australia in the Women’s World Cup. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s luck has not favored her at the toss this tournament, as Australia won the toss and elected to bowl first.

This match holds significant importance for both teams, with the ADCA-VDCA Stadium reaching full capacity. India is looking to recover from a surprising defeat to South Africa, while Australia comes off a comfortable win against Pakistan, despite a momentary scare where they collapsed to 76 for 7 while batting first.

Both teams have faced challenges leading up to this game, making a loss particularly damaging for India. The two countries recently squared off in a bilateral series before the World Cup, providing ample familiarity as they head into this crucial encounter.

Australia made one adjustment to their playing XI. Captain Alyssa Healy announced at the toss that left-arm spinner Sophie Molineux would replace Georgia Wareham, a decision likely influenced by India’s vulnerabilities against left-arm spin seen throughout the World Cup.

In contrast, India maintained their lineup for this significant match, sticking with the same players. “It got dewy last evening while training. Hopefully, we can slide on the bat,” Healy said. “We needed one change: Molineux is back, and Wareham misses out. It’s important to put everything together against a good team like India. It’s my first time back in Vizag since 2011. The atmosphere should be great, and the girls are excited.”

Kaur, reflecting on their recent performances, noted, “The pitch looks better than what we had in the last game. It’s the same XI. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. The key is how you bounce back. We had lots of positives from our last game, and the support from fans has always been significant for us.”

Playing XIs:

Australia Women (Playing XI): Alyssa Healy (w/c), Phoebe Litchfield, Ellyse Perry, Beth Mooney, Annabel Sutherland, Ashleigh Gardner, Tahlia McGrath, Sophie Molineux, Kim Garth, Alana King, Megan Schutt.

India Women (Playing XI): Pratika Rawal, Smriti Mandhana, Harleen Deol, Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma, Richa Ghosh (w), Amanjot Kaur, Sneh Rana, Kranti Gaud, Shree Charani.
