Bihar BJP MLA Mishri Lal Yadav Resigns, Labels Party ‘Anti-Dalit’

Bihar BJP MLA Mishri Lal Yadav, who represents the Alinagar constituency in Darbhanga, announced his resignation from the party on Saturday, citing grievances over the BJP’s stance towards Dalits and backward classes.

His resignation occurs just ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, with the first phase set for November 6, 2025. This move is considered a significant setback for the BJP, especially concerning its support among the Other Backward Classes (OBC) and Dalit voters.

During a press conference, Yadav stated, “Today, not only the backward Dalits but also I am being insulted; my self-respect as an MLA is being hurt. It has become difficult for me to maintain my dignity within the BJP. Because of me, the NDA won in two assembly constituencies… but the BJP has become anti-backward class.” He mentioned that he would formally submit his resignation to Bihar BJP president Dilip Jaiswal.

According to party insiders, Yadav’s resignation was influenced by concerns that the BJP might not grant him a ticket in the upcoming elections, potentially favoring singer Maithili Thakur for the Alinagar constituency instead.

Yadav previously won the seat in 2020 while representing the Vikassheel Insan Party (VIP) before joining the BJP. He asserted his role in securing the constituency for the NDA for the first time. The VIP, under Mukesh Sahni’s leadership, had parted ways with the NDA in 2022 following Sahni’s removal from the Nitish Kumar cabinet, leading to all four of its MLAs, including Yadav, joining the BJP.

While Yadav has not disclosed his future political plans, sources suggest he may be in discussions with leaders from the opposition INDIA bloc, led by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
