Soldiers’ Bodies Recovered in Anantnag, Kashmir

SRINAGAR: The bodies of two soldiers, who had been missing since October 6 in the Ahlan Gadol forest of Kokernag, Anantnag district, were recovered on Friday. This follows the earlier recovery of one soldier’s body a day prior, as confirmed by officials.

The soldiers have been identified as Lance Havildar Palash Ghosh and Lance Naik Sujay Ghosh. They are believed to have died in a weather-related accident while on patrol in a high-altitude, snow-covered area. The Srinagar-based 15 Chinar Corps expressed its condolences, stating, “Chinar Corps honours the supreme sacrifice of Bravehearts Lance Havildar Palash Ghosh and Lance Naik Sujay Ghosh while conducting relentless counter-terror operations in extreme weather conditions. Their courage and dedication will forever inspire us.”

Officials suggested that the soldiers may have strayed off course due to deteriorating weather conditions in the mountainous region between Anantnag and Kishtwar. Preliminary assessments indicated that an avalanche or snowstorm might have been the cause of their disappearance. The Army reiterated its commitment to support the bereaved families during this difficult time.

To assist in the search efforts, helicopters were deployed in addition to ground teams. Since Monday, temperatures in the Kashmir valley have plummeted by 10°C following recent snowfall in the higher elevations.
