Manchester City secured their fourth victory of the Premier League season with a 1-0 win over Brentford on Sunday, October 5. Erling Haaland’s ninth-minute goal provided the necessary points, placing City fifth in the league standings. The start to the season has been challenging for the club, but they are gradually finding their rhythm, bolstered by Haaland’s impressive goal-scoring ability.

In addition to the team’s performance, head coach Pep Guardiola made headlines by setting a new Premier League record. He has now become the quickest manager to achieve 250 wins in the league, accomplishing the feat in just 349 matches. This surpasses the previous record held by Sir Alex Ferguson, who reached the same milestone in 404 games. Arsène Wenger is third, attaining 250 wins in 424 matches.

Upon reaching this milestone, Guardiola expressed his honor at being included in such a prestigious group. He stated, “It’s an honour to be alongside Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsène Wenger. I will invite them to a good dinner. It’s a pleasure to be part of that in Premier League history, really pleased. Now let’s go for 250 more.” This achievement comes as Guardiola embarks on his tenth season with City.

Haaland’s performance has been crucial to City’s success this season. After a slow start, the Norwegian forward has found his scoring form in recent matches, netting one goal against Brentford, two against Burnley, and another against Arsenal. Currently, he leads the league with eight goals in the 2025-26 season, alongside 10 goal involvements, which is the highest in the Premier League this season. In the race for the golden boot, Haaland is tied with Kylian Mbappé of Real Madrid, with both players having scored nine goals, trailing only Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane, who has netted 11 goals in six matches.
