Patna Sees 1.63 Lakh New Voters Ahead of Elections: Final List Updated

The Election Commission of India announced the release of the final voter list for Bihar on Tuesday, following a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) that encompassed the 14 assembly constituencies in Patna. This revised voter roll indicates a notable increase in the number of electors.

According to the District Administration of Patna, the final electoral roll was published on September 30, 2025, under the Intensive Revision Campaign for 2025, based on an eligibility date of July 1, 2025. The total number of electors is now 48,15,294, which reflects an increase of 1,63,600 compared to the previous draft list published on August 1, 2025, which accounted for 46,51,694 electors.

The Election Commission emphasized that the updated roll is essential ahead of the upcoming elections this year. “Any voter can view the details of their name in the electoral roll through the provided link,” the Commission stated.

The recent revision follows a drive initiated in July to remove foreign illegal migrants from the voter rolls. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is reviewing an opposition plea contesting the SIR process. The Court has warned that if irregularities are uncovered in the Election Commission’s methodology, the entire exercise could be invalidated.

The comprehensive revision process engaged over 77,000 Booth Level Officers (BLOs), nearly 3,000 assistant officers, and more than 1.6 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs) from major political parties. However, the process has faced criticism from opposition parties; for instance, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has alleged irregularities in the revision process. The Election Commission has refuted these claims, insisting that its operations are impartial and devoid of any bias towards ruling or opposition parties.
