Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), asserting that the cultural heritage and traditions of the people of Ladakh are under threat. He called for the Union Territory of Ladakh to be included in the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. “Ladakhis asked for a voice. The BJP responded by killing four young men and jailing Sonam Wangchuk. Stop the killing. Stop the violence. Stop the intimidation,” Gandhi stated on social media platform X. He emphasized the need to “give Ladakh a voice” and support for the Sixth Schedule.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also condemned the Modi government’s “pathetic handling” of the situation in Ladakh, particularly regarding the arrest of climate activist Wangchuk under the National Security Act. The arrests have drawn widespread criticism and raised concerns over the treatment of activists in the region.
