Zelenskyy Praises India’s Support, Anticipates Strengthened Ties Ahead

TOI Correspondent from Washington: In a recent interview with Fox News, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his belief that “India is mostly with us” and conveyed hopes that former U.S. President Donald Trump could persuade New Delhi to halt its purchases of Russian oil.

Zelenskyy stated, “Yes, we have these questions with energy, but I think that President Trump can manage it with Europeans, make more close and strong relations with India.” He emphasized the need to encourage India to reconsider its stance on the Russian energy sector, particularly in light of ongoing Chinese and Indian imports of Russian oil, which he noted are benefiting Moscow.

In a notable shift from his previous stance advocating for Ukraine to make territorial concessions to Russia, Trump asserted on Tuesday that he now believes Ukraine has the potential to reclaim its territory “with the support of the European Union and NATO, and, who knows, maybe even go further than that!”

This change in perspective followed a meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, while the U.S. continues its efforts to apply pressure on India to reduce its Russian oil imports.
