Ravichandran Ashwin to Join ILT20 and BBL Following IPL Exit: Reports

Former India cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin is preparing to participate in the forthcoming editions of both the International League T20 (ILT20) and the Big Bash League (BBL). Last month, he announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL) to pursue opportunities in various T20 leagues. Ashwin faced a dilemma regarding his involvement as the schedules for both leagues overlap this season.

Reports from Cricbuzz indicate that Ashwin has registered for the ILT20 auction and is attracting interest in the BBL, with four teams expressing a desire to sign him. The Sydney Sixers, Sydney Thunder, Hobart Hurricanes, led by Ricky Ponting, and Adelaide Strikers, captained by Tim Paine, have reportedly shown interest in acquiring his services.

The overlapping dates of the ILT20 and BBL could limit Ashwin’s participation in both tournaments. The ILT20 is set to run from December 2 to January 4, while the BBL is scheduled from December 14 to January 25.

As of now, Ashwin is expected to prioritize the ILT20 if he is selected in the auction, which will take place on October 1. Following the auction, he may then travel to Australia to participate in select matches of the BBL, continuing through its end date in late January. “I have registered for the auction. Hopefully, one of the six franchises will be interested in bidding for me,” Ashwin stated regarding his enrollment for the ILT20 auction.

Additionally, reports suggest that Ashwin may explore participation in other T20 leagues, including the Major League Cricket (MLC) in the United States or The Hundred in the United Kingdom.
