The government of India is poised to establish an Integrated Transport Authority aimed at crafting comprehensive transport strategies across all modes of transportation and enhancing end-to-end mobility. This proposed apex agency will comprise planning leaders from various related ministries and will be responsible for monitoring to ensure the timely completion of transport projects.

The upcoming proposal is expected to be presented to the Cabinet imminently, aligning with the government’s objective to accelerate transport infrastructure development. This initiative seeks to facilitate quicker transit for people and goods, thereby diminishing logistics costs.

Currently, a National Project Group operates under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, evaluating large-scale projects but functioning solely in an advisory capacity. According to officials, a group of secretaries has recommended the formation of an authority akin to those found in countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, and Japan to address all transportation-related matters. However, they cautioned that the new agency should not devolve into another bureaucratic layer focused merely on presentations.
