Global Sumud Flotilla Departs Tunisia to Challenge Gaza Blockade

The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) has commenced its journey from the northern Tunisian port city of Bizerte, with participants from over 40 countries aiming to breach Israel’s blockade on Gaza and deliver critical humanitarian aid. After experiencing delays due to recent drone attacks on two of its vessels, the flotilla is now en route without planned stops, carrying essential supplies for the Palestinian population. Among the participants are notable figures such as climate activist Greta Thunberg, Irish actor Liam Cunningham, and former Barcelona Mayor Ada Colau, as well as Italian members of parliament. The Italian government has communicated with Israeli authorities to ensure the safety and rights of the citizens aboard, including parliamentary members. As the United Nations reports that over half a million Palestinians are facing severe hunger, this flotilla represents a significant attempt to challenge the blockade and provide much-needed assistance.
