The Andhra Pradesh Government is set to establish a Deeptech university to enhance education and skills in advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), as announced by Education Minister Nara Lokesh.
During a session in the Assembly where he introduced a bill aimed at amending the Private Universities Act, Lokesh emphasized the government’s commitment to prioritizing education. He noted that the state government is actively working on inviting several esteemed foreign universities to establish campuses in Andhra Pradesh. As part of this initiative, 70 acres of land has already been designated for BITS Pilani’s campus in Amaravati.
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Government first implemented the Private Universities Act during its tenure in 2016 to promote the development of private universities. Lokesh mentioned that efforts are ongoing to attract other prominent universities from across the country to open campuses in the state. Additionally, plans for establishing an AI University and a Sports University in Visakhapatnam are also underway.
