BJP Counters Rahul Gandhi’s Gujarat Comment: ‘Reflect and Take Responsibility’

On March 8, the Bharatiya Janata Party advised Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, to cease blaming others and engage in self-reflection.

“Initially targeting his party and the media, he has now started pointing fingers at his own constituents. I recommend he focus on self-reflection rather than placing blame on others,” stated BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi on Saturday.

Trivedi’s comments came after Gandhi’s prior statements where he indicated a necessity to identify and eliminate leaders and members within his party who are working in favor of the BJP, even suggesting severe measures, including dismissals.

During his address to party workers in Ahmedabad on the second day of his two-day visit to Gujarat, Gandhi remarked, “Our foremost task is to distinguish between two factions within our ranks: those who genuinely embody the party’s ideology and stand with the public, and those who are disconnected from the populace, half of whom are aligned with the BJP.”

Rahul Visits Gujarat for Two Days

Gandhi’s visit is primarily aimed at strategizing for the 2027 assembly elections, suggesting a significant restructuring of the state party unit and promising an effective plan to challenge the BJP.

“There are two categories of individuals within the leadership and party workers. Some are committed to the people, advocate for their rights, honor them, and possess the Congress ideology in their hearts. The others, who are distanced from the people, do not show them respect, and half of whom are involved with the BJP,” he elaborated.

The MP from Rae Bareli emphasized that the primary task for the party should be to distinguish these two groups, even if it necessitates taking strict measures to remove individuals.

Gandhi asserted that until these two factions are separated, the public in Gujarat will not have faith in the party. He further claimed that the citizens of the state are suffering, and industries such as diamond, textile, and ceramics are in decline.

“Observe closely. The citizens are demanding a new vision. The approach of the past 20-25 years has failed, and Congress can readily provide that vision. However, this cannot be accomplished without filtering out these two types of individuals,” he remarked.

He noted that the Congress Party has not held power in Gujarat for more than three decades, and discussions during his visits to the state center around upcoming elections. He mentioned that Congress has consistently fallen short of meeting the expectations the people of Gujarat have had for the past 30 years.

On the first day of his visit, which was Friday, Gandhi met with party leaders as well as presidents at the district and block levels. The upcoming AICC session is set to take place in Ahmedabad on April 8-9, marking its first occurrence in the state in 64 years.

In the 2022 Gujarat assembly elections, the Congress managed to secure only 17 of the 182 seats. However, after five MLAs resigned, the party’s representation in the assembly fell to 12.

“Once we have met our responsibilities, I can ensure that all the people of Gujarat will stand with us,” he concluded.
