Minister for Local Self-Governments M.B. Rajesh recently praised the innovative biodegradable waste processing facility developed by Fabbco Biocycle in Brahmapuram, describing it as a model initiative that could serve as a solution to Kerala’s urban waste management issues.

During his visit to the facility, which utilizes Black Soldier Fly (BSF) technology to transform organic waste into protein-rich products, the minister emphasized the importance of this cutting-edge approach. He noted that a delegation from Dubai had toured the site and expressed interest in implementing a similar model there.

“It is a source of pride for us that Kerala is at the forefront of such advanced waste management technologies, influencing cities around the world like Dubai and Singapore,” he stated, adding that similar initiatives would be launched in various regions across Kerala.

The Brahmapuram facility established by Fabbco Biocycle was set up in just four months and has the capacity to process 50 tonnes of organic waste each day. Since its opening, the plant has effectively treated 12,000 tonnes of waste using BSF larvae, turning it into a nutrient-rich product.

Additionally, the facility generates frass, an organic fertilizer created through the waste processing cycle. This efficient method allows for the management of substantial amounts of waste in a short period, representing a groundbreaking effort in India, as there are currently no other facilities operating at this scale.
