Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is currently on a quick visit to New Delhi, where he is advocating for the release of funds from the Central government to support the development of backward districts. During a meeting with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Reddy emphasized the importance of releasing a pending grant of ₹1,800 crore that has been due for the fiscal years 2019-20, 2021-22, 2022-23, and 2023-24.

The Chief Minister also brought attention to the outstanding amount of ₹408.49 crore that Andhra Pradesh owes to Telangana. This debt represents expenses incurred by the Telangana government for the upkeep of shared institutions. Although the Andhra Pradesh government had previously committed to settling this amount and the Union Home Ministry had issued a directive for payment, the dues remain unsettled. Reddy urged the Finance Minister to facilitate the release of these funds, including applicable interest.

In addition, Reddy highlighted recent orders from the Centre demanding the recovery of ₹2,547.07 crore from Telangana as its share of loans borrowed for projects initiated in the former united state of Andhra Pradesh. He reminded the Finance Minister that following the reorganization of states in 2014, all funds associated with centrally sponsored schemes were allocated exclusively to Andhra Pradesh. He pointed out that, according to the Reorganization Act, ₹495.20 crore should be transferred from Andhra Pradesh to Telangana, based on population ratios. Despite numerous appeals to the Accountant General and the Andhra Pradesh government, there has been no positive response, prompting Reddy to seek intervention from the Union Minister to ensure that these funds are released to Telangana.
