A recent bout of heavy snowfall in Manali, Himachal Pradesh, on Monday caused significant disruptions, leaving numerous vehicles stranded and tourists trapped for hours between Solang Valley and the Atal Tunnel, Rohtang. Officials reported that approximately 1,000 vehicles were caught in a lengthy traffic jam, leading police to initiate a rescue operation to relocate around 700 stranded tourists to safer locations. Footage from the scene depicted police officers aiding travelers and drivers as the snowfall continued to fall.

Local authorities played a vital role in coordinating the rescue efforts. The surge of tourists arriving to celebrate Christmas and the New Year amidst the scenic, snow-covered landscapes contributed to the challenging situation. Earlier, Shimla had also been cloaked in a beautiful layer of snow, bringing joy and hope to its residents.

This enchanting snowfall began after a two-week interval following the first snowfall on December 8, rejuvenating the local tourism industry, which has been striving to recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Captivated by the breathtaking sight of the snow-laden hills, many tourists are extending their stays, creating a festive atmosphere for all.

The unexpected snowfall has sparked excitement among those hoping for a “White Christmas.” Many tourists who had planned to depart have chosen instead to remain and enjoy the winter wonderland of Shimla. Local businesses, especially in the tourism and hospitality sectors, are optimistic about a prolonged tourist season, eager to capitalize on this magical winter moment. Visitors from various parts of the country are elated by the snowfall, describing it as a “once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

Hemant, a traveler from Haryana, shared, “The snow is a breathtaking sight, and the weather is incredible. We didn’t anticipate this, but when we woke up to find everything blanketed in snow, we decided to stay longer. It’s my first snowfall, and it’s truly a memorable experience.”

Pramod Yogi, a tourist from Faridabad, expressed his feelings, saying, “The joy brought by this snowfall is indescribable. Experiencing the stunning beauty of nature for the first time has been extraordinary. I encourage everyone to visit and enjoy this place. Watching the snowfall has been exhilarating, and I highly recommend coming here to witness and experience it for yourself.”
