The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast for “heavy rainfall” in various regions of Andhra Pradesh over a three-day period, from December 18 to 20. This weather pattern is expected to result from a low-pressure system developing over the Bay of Bengal.

The IMD anticipates “heavy rain” on Wednesday in certain areas, particularly in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), Yanam, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP), and Rayalaseema. The forecast also includes “thunderstorms with lightning” in isolated locations across these regions.

Looking ahead to Thursday, the department predicts “heavy to very heavy rain” in parts of NCAP and Yanam, while “isolated places” in SCAP and Rayalaseema may experience heavy rainfall as well. Moreover, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected to occur in NCAP, Yanam, SCAP, and Rayalaseema on Thursday. On Friday, heavy rain is likely to persist in isolated areas of NCAP and Yanam.

The IMD has reported that the low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is becoming more pronounced and is linked to a cyclonic circulation extending up to 5.8 kilometers above sea level. The system is projected to move northwest toward the coasts of north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh within the next 24 hours, and subsequently to shift north along the Andhra Pradesh coast in the following day.
