New Delhi: Akash Kumar Choudhary of Meghalaya made history by hitting eight consecutive sixes during a match in the ongoing Ranji Trophy Plate Group. This remarkable feat took place against Arunachal Pradesh at Pithwala Stadium in Bhimpore, Surat, on November 9.
Choudhary showcased his extraordinary hitting ability by launching six sixes in a single over, followed by two additional sixes, making him the first player in First-class cricket history to achieve eight successive sixes. His performance placed him alongside cricket legends Garry Sobers and Ravi Shastri, as he became only the third player to strike six sixes in one over.
In addition to this achievement, Choudhary set the record for the fastest fifty in First-class cricket, reaching the milestone in just 11 balls. This surpassed the previous record held by Wayne Knight of Leicestershire, who made a half-century off 12 balls in 2012.
Fastest fifties in First-class cricket history:
- Akash Kumar Choudhary: 11 balls, Meghalaya vs Arunachal Pradesh in 2025
- Wayne White: 12 balls, Leicestershire vs Essex in 2012
- Clive Inman: 13 balls, Leicestershire vs Nottinghamshire in 1965
Further details on Choudhary’s historic performance are expected to follow.
