Congress leader Jairam Ramesh recently criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi following remarks made by former US President Donald Trump. Trump, who is currently in South Korea for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit, claimed for the 56th time that his intervention helped de-escalate tensions between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam attack in May.

Ramesh shared a clip from Trump’s speech, pointing out that the former President has repeatedly asserted his role in halting Operation Sindoor during a military escalation between the two nations. Trump reiterated this claim during a public address in South Korea, emphasizing that he had contacted both Modi and Pakistan’s leadership to bring an end to hostilities.

In a post on the social media platform X, Ramesh wrote, “This is President Trump addressing the APEC CEO Summit in South Korea just a few minutes ago. Much more detailed than before.” He added, “56th time that President Trump has spoken about the abrupt halt to Operation Sindoor. But the self-styled but now thoroughly shrunken and deeply exposed 56-inch chest is still quiet.”

In a previous tweet, Ramesh shared Trump’s remarks from a business leaders’ event in Japan, speculating that Modi may no longer wish to maintain a close relationship with Trump.

During the APEC CEOs Luncheon, Trump claimed his intervention prevented a larger conflict, stating that seven planes were shot down during the military engagement. He mentioned that the resolution of tensions was linked to ongoing trade negotiations, saying, “I’m doing a trade deal with India, and I have great respect and love for Prime Minister Modi.”

Trump recounted his communication with both leaders, indicating he warned them that a trade deal would not be possible unless hostilities ceased. He recalled telling Modi, “We can’t make a trade deal with you. You’re starting a war with Pakistan.”

Trump characterized Modi as “the nicest-looking guy” but described his toughness, stating, “He’s tough as hell.” He concluded his remarks by expressing doubt that current President Joe Biden would have achieved a similar outcome.
