4.7 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Northeast Myanmar, Tremors Reverberate in Assam and Manipur

Earthquake of Magnitude 4.7 Strikes Myanmar Near India Border

NEW DELHI: A magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck Myanmar close to the India border early Tuesday morning, prompting tremors felt in Manipur, Nagaland, and Assam. The earthquake occurred at 6:10 AM, approximately 27 kilometers southeast of Ukhrul in Manipur, with a depth of 15 kilometers.

According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the epicenter of the quake was located at latitude 24.73 N and longitude 94.63 E. This area is around 155 kilometers south-southeast of Wokha in Nagaland, 159 kilometers southeast of Dimapur, 177 kilometers south of Mokokchung, 171 kilometers northeast of Ngopa in Mizoram, and 193 kilometers northeast of Champhai.

The tremor in Myanmar was reported just hours after a magnitude 3.4 earthquake hit the Satara district of Maharashtra at 12:09 AM on Tuesday, occurring at a shallow depth of 5 kilometers, 91 kilometers northwest of Kolhapur. Additionally, another earthquake of magnitude 3.3 occurred in Tibet at 4:28 AM, with its epicenter situated 227 kilometers north of Pangin in Arunachal Pradesh and 303 kilometers north of Dibrugarh in Assam, at a depth of 10 kilometers, as per NCS data.
